2009 Ford Flex 110v outlet

The SEL and Limited models of the Flex have a 150watt 110v outlet in the center console, so of course my SE needed one as well. I came up with three options to accomplish this:

  1. 1.Initially I was going to buy the parts from Ford, but the factory inverter, outlet plug, and the ring around the outlet cost over $400 at the local stealership!

  2. 2.Another option was to wait and pull all the parts from a totaled Flex. The problem with either of these options is that the SE model doesn’t have the factory wiring harness to plug the inverter into, so it would have required adding all the wiring for the inverter and outlet.

  3. 3.The final option was to buy a standard power inverter and then do a custom install job. The biggest problem here was finding a 110v outlet that installs in the factory location and looks clean.

2/23/10 Update: I am not happy with the outcome of this project because I can hear the whine of the inverter fan when I have something plugged in. So I am now getting the OEM inverter and outlet off a wrecked Flex. I will update my project when I obtain the new parts.
